Isopropel or isopropyl alcohol (IPA) is a synthetic alcohol which is colourless and flammable. Other names for IPA includes 2-propanolol, isopropanol or rubbing alcohol. Isopropyl alcohol (IPA) is not suitable for human consumption and cannot be used for the manufacture of food, beverages or any other edibles like food grade alcohol. Isopropyl alcohol is toxic when consumed or inhaled.
IPA for Cleaning
Isopropyl alcohol (IPA) has a strong odour and is widely used in industry as a solvent and cleaning agent. Its applications in industry are extensive, from the cleaning of laboratory equipment to the sanitizing of hands in medical facilities. Isopropyl alcohol is also used in the manufacture of a wide range of antiseptics, detergents and disinfectants.
IPA for Perfumes
Despite its strong odour, isopropyl alcohol (IPA) is widely used in the manufacture of perfumes. As a solvent it helps with the dissolution of substances and easily mixes with water and ethanol. It can also dissolve many oils. IPA dries rapidly and the strong alcohol odour will dissipate after a suitable drying time.
IPA for Ink
Another common use for isopropyl alcohol (IPA) is in inks. IPA can be used to dilute the ink due to its ability to mix and dissolve with water and certain oils. It is a suitable alcohol to be used in both solvent- or water-based ink systems. Since IPA is colourless, it does not risk tainting the ink colour and can rapidly dry to restore the original brightness of the ink.
